The National Service Scheme has been functioning in our Polytechnic College from 1987 with a goal to provide “Education through community service and community service through Education”. There are presently two units each comprising 100 volunteers. The NSS has the distinction in developing the students by creating social consciousness, on the social issues and building up strategies to tackle them. Seminars and Workshops on the current social issues such as AIDS awareness, Rain water harvesting, Drug abuse, etc are held on the campus. Regular activities such as temple cleaning, rendering a helping hand to the police for traffic management and special activities such as a ten day camp at the adopted village, organizing health check-up camp, blood donation camp, imparting vocational training to youth and fine arts to women are carried out every year.
V. Ramakrishna Polytechnic College has two units of NSS. Each unit enrolls 100 volunteers, including students from the first and second years of study. Volunteers are required to take up regular activities and participate in a camp organized in the adopted village for seven days.
Activities held during the academic year 2023-24 are highlighted below:
On the 15th of August 2023, Independence Day was celebrated in our college. All the NSS volunteers and NSS Programme Officers made arrangements for the celebration. A group of alumni visited the Polytechnic to participate in the function. Classical and Western dance performances were presented by student groups, while others performed national songs. Competitions in drawing, elocution, and essay writing were conducted for all participating students. Prizes were awarded to the winners, and alumni sponsored prizes were given to academically outstanding students.
On the 26th of January 2024, Republic Day was celebrated in our college. NSS units organized activities involving staff and students in the celebration.
Awareness about the importance of voting was given to all eligible students on National Voters Day.
Thiruvottiyur Municipality and NSS Units of V. Ramakrishna Polytechnic College jointly celebrated National Voters Day. An awareness rally and rangoli competitions were held, and prizes were distributed to students and the public by Chennai North RTO. Our college Principal attended and graced the event as the special guest.
A NSS special camp was conducted at Tiruvottiyur Government School. NSS Camp students engaged in various activities for the nearby community and school, including campus cleaning, painting, health awareness, yoga and meditation sessions, and first aid training.
