Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering Department

Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of engineering, physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that involves the production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines and tools. It is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines.

The engineering field requires an understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis, and electricity. Mechanical engineers use these core principles along with tools like computer-aided engineering, and product lifecycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices and others.

The department has a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty and full fledged laboratory facility.

Major achievements

Every year paper presentation competition is been organised.Students are encouraged to participate in Inter-Polytechnic competition.

Industry institute interaction

In order to bridge the gap between Institution and Industries, Industrial visits are arranged in companies like Kcp, Ashok Leyland,Carborundum Universal,Regional Labour Institute,ISRO,Kalpakkam nuclear power Plant,Hinduja Foundries,Ennore Thermal Power Station etc

Experinenced personnel from Industries are invited for Guest lectures and to interact with students .We have entered into an agreement with the KCP which will provide.

Placement

Mechanical engineering students have been placed in various industries such as Ashok leyland,Kcp,Fives cail kcp,Rane motors,Flsmitdth, Carborundum universal,Eveready industries,Ford India, Brakes India,Hyundai India,Precision Hydraulics,Delphi Tvs etc. All the students have been given placement opportunity.

Career Growth

Students have consistently won prizes in these competitions.Training students in English and Soft skills such as team work, personality development ,Interview and Group discussion is a regular practice.NSS,Sports and Games and other extracurricular activities are held regularly.Industrial training ranging from one week to one month are arranged for students during vacation which helps them to understand the actual real time practices in Industries. This exposure insisits greater confidence in him therby improving performance in academics and placement.

Activities

Hot water System and Pump selection

Department of Mechanical Engineering organised a seminar on "Hot water System and Pump selection" for the final year students. The resource person was Mr R Rajesh ME, a Process Engineer from Guha Industries

Energy - The current trend and future prospects in India

A seminar on "Energy - The current trend and future prospects in India" was conducted on 13th July 2016 for final year students of Mechanical Engineering department. The resource person Mr. V M Jaganathan ME , a research scholar in IIT Chennai, who is currently pursuing his research in the field of Renewable Energy focused his presentation on Solar Energy; its importance and the provision of Government subsidy for installing and implementing the entire system.
