Quiz Time

Although reading and learning are important, interactive sessions are essential to test whether a student is able to retrieve what he has learnt. Quiz is a game and an exercise for the mind which helps in retention of knowledge. While attempt is sincerely made by faculty to improve learning skills of students by using creative approaches, students enjoy experiential learning.

Keeping this in mind a quiz was organised for the IV semester EEE students on 1st February 2019 and 15th February 2019. The quiz master was Ms Anitha Lecturer and the score keeper was Gnanadeepam lecturer of EEE department.

The students were divided into 4 teams. The Quiz focused on four technical subjects. There were 4 rounds. The rules of the game were explained clearly before the game started. The questions were either visual /audio.

The team comprising 16 members bagged the first prize. The Runners up were a team of 15 students

Visit to ELECTRIC LOCO SHED , ROYAPURAM on 04-02-19

Industrial Visits help students understand and relate the theory taught in classrooms to the real time systems. With this objective a visit to Electric Loco shed , Royapuram was arranged for final year students to relate the topics in Distribution and Utilisation subject to the real time electric locomotives.

Today there is a great demand for Electric Locomotives across India Southern Railway’s electric loco shed in Royapuram was initiated in 2007. It is turning into a hub for maintenance of locomotives. With the use of modern technology the quality of maintenance of various classes of locomotives used for express trains is being improved and the timelines for periodic overhaul of the engines is also likely to be reduced

The Royapuram loco shed has a holding capacity of 75 locos that serve various categories of passenger trains, including the high-speed Rajdhani express services. Steps are being taken to increase the capacity further. The visit helped them to understand classes of Traction motors and their service and maintenance. Students were exposed to different types of locomotors used in Goods & Passenger (express) trains,

They gained knowledge on,
Bogies, Bogie attachments.
Pantograph structure & its checking.
Air comparers motor.
Fault checking 7 Replacement of Traction Motors.
Periodical maintenance of locos
Braking.
Emergency braking.
Pneumatic timers.
Wheel alignment Tuning.
Senior section Engineer & station superintended supported and gave enormous information students queries related to electric traction.

Workshop on Elecrical CAD

Using Electrical Design software, perfect new electrical systems can be developed for various applications . Plan, Layout ,Prototype can be developed and it can be tested to fix any issues and report could also be generated for documenting the specifications and schematics.

AutoCAD Electrical is one of the software for electrical engineers to create industry specific control system documents. To create awareness on design tasks and facilitate drafting skills among students a Workshop on “Electrical CADD” was organized for final year students on 23rd and 24th of Jan, 2019. Resource persons from CADD SCHOOL imparted training on basic key elements of ECAD software using electrical projects and also demonstrated the feature of report Generation. Students felt that the programme provided useful knowledge on features of 2d design of Electrical and Electronics projects.

Technocrat

An Industrial Visit to Technocrat Automation in Ambattur, was arranged for II Year Electrical and Electronics students on 12/02/2019. The visit was aimed at providing an understanding of the working of a Real time Boiler water treatment plant and Oil and water separating plant. Around 55 number of students visited the factory along with 3 staff. Besides providing detailed information about Industrial plant automation and Process automation, the experts also created an awareness about the emerging technology IoT. Visit enabled students to gain knowledge about PLC, SCADA, VFD, Control Panel DCS and embedded system.

The Advisor and principal in charge congratulated and appreciated the participants and the staff for this achievement. They encouraged and motivated the all other students through their enthusiastic address on prize distribution function.

REPORT ON INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO ISRO

Department of Electrical Engineering students accompanied by the Staff members visited SDSC, SHAR (Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota Range), on 22nd July 2016. Initially they were shown a video presentation on ‘Gateway to Space’, which gave them an idea about GSLV & PSLV launch vehicles. Then they were taken to Mission control centre. Various animations related to the tracking rockets and the orbiting of satellites was shown to the students. The students also visited the space museum which gave them an idea of working models. The overall experience was enthralling and inspiring. We appreciate the complex working and tireless effort of the scientists, who work to make each launch a success. The inspiration derived was well worth the time spent.
